Downtown Dining in Big D

Ashton and I had been talking about trying the new Stephen Pyles restaurant, aptly named Stephen Pyles, since it opened right before Thanksgiving. Well, tonight was our night. I mean, what else better did we have to do on this lazy Monday night.

The place is quite chic with the urban touches, however I cannot dwell on the architecture or the interior as to not inflate Karate Man's already overinflated ego. So, I will dwell on the food instead. We started off with an excellent wine chosen by Ashton followed by some complimentary foie gras. We decided to try the Tres Cerviche, a sampling of tuna, salmon, and shrimp prepared in a variety of spices. I was able to hear all about Ashton's recent trip to London (the city I am apparently supposed to be in!) and was able to share all of the coincidenci (Ashton's plural version of coincidence) that have been occurring in my life as of late. Sometimes, there is just so many weird coincidenci that happen that I think some higher power is just trying to make me laugh.

As for entrees, well I think I made the better selection. I am trying to give up red meat completely, but decided to venture out for one more steak before I officially started. The beef tenderloin, complemented by mashed potatoes and some type of chili rellano side dish was excellent. Ashton opted for the Chilean sea bass, which he described as merely mediocre. The boy has acquired such a refined palate in his brief time here in Dallas! Ashton decided to take pictures of the food as he was demonstrating to me the many features my camera has which I don't know how to use.

Dessert was delectable. I ordered the "coffee and donuts", a coffee creme brulee topped with homemade donuts while Ashton merely drank a dessert port. However, we both eyed the "Heaven and Hell" dessert, a combination of devil's food and angel's food cakes and will be sure to try that on our next visit.

Stephen Pyles himself greeted us and spoke to us throughout the evening. I must say that I don't often get the owner/chef at my table when I dine, so the conversation was quite a surprise. I was even able to get him to take my picture with Ashton as we enjoyed some beverages at the bar. How cool is that?

We ended the evening at Sunset Lounge. Stay tuned for our next dining adventure.
