My Dating Adventures Come Back to Haunt Me!

I have always wondered when my dating adventures would catch up with me. Well, apparently they did last week. Yesterday I ran into a colleague at work who told me she had a funny story to tell me. She and a girlfriend were on a flight to Palm Springs and she was sitting next to a man that struck up a conversation with her. She informed him that she was a physician at a particular Dallas hospital and he informed her that he had been a patient there about 2 years ago. She asked him if she had been his doctor and he said no. In fact, he remembered the physician and it was none other than Dr. Trouble. He also mentioned something to her about writing me and scaring me off. She didn't inquire any further.

I had to think long and hard for a few seconds, remembering the countless email exchanges, first dates, etc that consumed my life when I was newly single, to recall just who this might be. Then it came to me. After my break-up with Karate Man, I decided to make a quick return to the dating world to hasten the recovery and to learn again that the dating pool is not merely filled with lying, cheating, sex addicts such as my ex-boyfriend. I got thousands of "winks", most of which I deleted. But with one particular "wink", I decided to "wink" back. He was attractive and he fit my criteria at the time (don't ask what that exactly was as it seemed to change by the week!). Lo and behold, I got a response back from him. Here is his email message:

Hey:

I appreciate the return wink. I didn't want to leave you hanging and thinking of me as a jerk, so I wanted to send you a note. I am pretty sure I have actually met you before at the hospital. I think when I was in the hospital back in February 2004 you were one of my doctors. I would love to get to know you better, but the timing is poor as I just started dating someone and want to give it a fair chance.

Best Wishes,

C

I freaked out when I got that message. Isn't there something unethical about physicians dating patients? I mean, it was unintentional, but still there was something weird about it. So, I pretended like I never received the message. As to why I have saved it for a year in my inbox.....who knows. I figured there would be a good story that would come of it someday.
