Valentine's Day Soirre

It was time again for the annual Valentine's Day party held at my friend's house(I have to use the generic "friend" here as she doesn't have a pseudonym yet). Forget all the expensive price fixe menus at all of my favorite restaurants, forget dealing with all of the disgustingly romantic couples out on the town for the evening, blah, blah, blah....it was time to celebrate in the company of good friends without all of the marketing of V-Day. When I told Robin about our dinner party, he reluctantly informed me that he would have to cancel his reservations at an expensive restaurant......yeah right! Robin, who seemed to forget Valentine's Day last year, was reminded over and over again this year how much I DID NOT want chocolates and how I DID NOT want roses Lo and behold I got both! Who ever said reverse psychology didn't work on men???

Anyway, we picked up some Malbec wine and headed over to the M Streets to my friend's house to partake in the V-Day fun. I seemed to recall that the annual party was originally called the Broken Heart's Club Party as it used to be just a bunch of single people (i.e. Roger Hayes most years and friends) hanging out and enjoying wine. Lerxst and I were "dating" at the time of the first party. The next morning, when the gang got together for our usual brunch at Ozona (Roger liked their Bloody Mary bar though he NEVER seemed to order one!) and I recounted my perfect Valentine's Day evening complete with dinner and flowers, Roger and friends told me that V-Day was such a contrived holiday and that they had celebrated their "singlehood" the night before at a dinner party. What started out as a bunch of single friends then turned into an annual tradition and quadrupled in size. It's funny how long the "singlehood" actually lasted because the next year it seemed as if everyone had dates at the Broken Heart's Club party!

So, here we were again, finding the gang together for V-Day, with the exception of Roger. It was rumored that he had made an appearance in Dallas the previous weekend, having been spotted at Uptown Bar & Grill on Friday night with some questionable (that being an understatement) people. It was also rumored that he was out at the Stoneleigh P until the wee hours of the morning on Sunday with none other than Robin Leach. As to why he didn't stay in Dallas for V-Day is beyond me! A party is never complete without Roger gracing us with his presence. In fact, that is probably why so many of his ex-girlfriend are still in his life in one capacity or another. (Total count of Roger's ex's tonight = 2).

However, even in his absence, he did seem to consume the conversation on Valentine's Day as we snacked on delicious hor d'oeurves (compliments of a chef from Scotland), drank red wine, and spread a little Valentine's Day cheer. It was a great way to spend the evening while avoiding all the commercialization of V-Day. Here are a few pics from the party:
