Breaking Into Prison!

Since Robin Leach was going to a convention in San Francisco, I thought I would tag along for a romantic weekend getaway. Actually, I had never been to San Francisco so I was looking forward to this last minute vacation. We could not have planned a better weekend to be in SF - the temperature was in the low 80s (unusual for SF this time of the year), and it was sunny the entire weekend. Thank goodness as we must have walked the entire city - downtown, Chinatown, Little Italy, Japan Center, Fisherman's Wharf, etc. Though tempted, I somehow avoided hopping on a cable car!

In addition to all the shopping and eating we did, we decided to do the ultimate SF tourist destination....Alcatraz! I had booked our tickets the week before since apparently the tours sell out promptly. So, off we were to Pier 31 to catch the boat. For some unknown reason, I opted to sit outside on the ferry, freezing my butt of the entire 10 min ride despite bringing a jacket. The water was choppy, the wind was high, letting me understand why few people opted to swim the bay. On the way over, I got a text message from Roger Hayes saying he was laying out in Florida. Why I needed to know that info, I don't know. So, I told him I was on my way to Alcatraz. His question to me, "Why are you breaking into prison?"

For those of you that haven't been there, Alcatraz offers a self guided audio tour (hence the reason we are wearing head phones) that is actually quite good. We toured the prison, posed for pics inside the cells, and even picked up some souvenirs for my brother.

The remainder of the weekend was spent leisurely walking the city and enjoying the beautiful weekend. Robin had picked a delightful little boutique hotel at Union Square, Villa Florence, where we were within blocks to many attractions. Kevo was supposed to meet us for brunch on Sunday, but called to say he was "too hung-over" to venture out. Typical Kevo!

My next stop: Girl's Weekend in New Orleans with Ms. Kung-Fu. Should be interesting as we will be heading over to the Tropical Isle & The Funky Pirate!
