Two Rock Concerts in Two Nights!I haven't had much time to update my adventures on the blog because I have been partying like a rock star this week (not really, but it sounds good!). As the title mentions, I decided to go to back to back concerts st Smirnoff and am now paying the price for my late nights of partying. This must have been about the 100th rock concert I have seen. My concert days started when I was 9 years old and attended Madonna's Like A Virgin tour back in 1985. It's been a steady stream of shows ever since, including shows in foreign countries. Somehow I don't think I will ever be too old for live music. Thursday was the Oasis and Jet concert. I have always had a liking of British pop (3 of the 5 top favorites are British), and have had a crush on Noel and
Liam Gallagher since freshman year of college when (What's the Story) Morning Glory was released. They are slightly trashy, have made the tabloids doing all sorts of wrong things, and have a reputation for living on the edge - perfect! Ashton accompanied me. We opted for a little shuffleboard and beer at Elbow Room beforehand and I got to introduce him to the wonderful little neighborhood bar where I practically lived during medical school. I have declared myself the Unofficial Shuffleboard Champ of Dallas, though Ashton might argue against that title. I do have good wrist action....what can I say!We then made our way over to Smirnoff where we were greeted by The Dude
and his lovely date. Those lucky bastards were sitting front row center after acquiring tickets on Ebay from a scalper. We were a few rows behind them. He's supposed to be sending me some up close and personal photos from the evening. The concert was pretty good - Jet, of course, brought a lot of energy to the night
with some of the openers. Noel worked the crowd a little, but we could barely understand his commentary made throughout the evening. Of course he came out with my old favorites
-"Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back in Anger", "Champagne Supernova", etc. The new CD is more like their first than

like the CDs they have put out in the last few years. Maybe this is marking their comeback. Overall, the show was good and I have already downloaded the new album. And, most importantly, I still like Noel and Liam!
Friday night was the Coldplay concert. I wasn't even supposed to go, but my plans to go out of town changed at the last minute due to Hurricane Rita. I first saw Coldplay back in 2001 after

Ms. Kung-Fu and I discovered them during a trip to London. I remember begging someone to accompany me to the concert, as no one had heard of this obscure British band. Now, you cannot even get good tickets to see them as Ticketmaster sold out in under 5 minutes. Chris Martin is amazing in concert, and that hasn't changed since the last time I saw him perform. The new CD isn't my favorite - I mean, how can you top
A Rush of Blood to the Head. But, the crowd got into it and you could feel the energy of the evening, complete with vibrant stage colors and video. My favorite parts were when the big yellow balls bounced throughout the crowd during "Yellow"and when the group did a tribute to Johnny Cash.
Now it is Saturday and, though I have gone to two concerts in a row, I find myself looking in
The Observer for what is happening tonight. I am trying to set a new record I suppose for how many consecutive rock concerts I can attend before losing my hearing! I'll keep you posted.
