My New Hobby: Art Collection

I have always found myself dating artists, poets, and dreamers. I suppose it is the natural pairing for someone who is at the core analytical, scientific, etc. Relationships are about balance - the yin and yang, right? Unfortunately, artist types typically have their heads in the clouds, are innately selfish, and end up inevitably breaking my heart. So, I have sworn off any man with a profession that deals with right-brain centered activities and am back to science types. Robin Leach is mostly the scientific type, though he keeps saying he might go back and get a degree in architecture.

The one thing I have learned from all of my dalliances with these guys is a great appreciation of art. Don't get me wrong - I have always loved art and art museums, but over the last few years I have appreciated it at a level beyond the mere superficial. I have found different styles that I like and dislike, and have frequented many museums around the county. It was then that I decided to start my own little collection. It would of course have to start out small, but with the intention to one day accrue an impressive collection. Art is about your own personal tastes, paintings that evoke memories and responses to the individual viewer. Here are a few of those types of painting that I have recently added to my collection:

L'an dix-sept cent vingt (In the year 1720) by Neal Turner, an American artist living in Paris, France. Here are some links to a few of his exhibitions: Corot with Gasoline and Neal Turner. It was something about this piece that attracted me - perhaps the vivid colors or perhaps the expression on the subject's face. Whatever the case, it has gotten quite a bit of attention in the space it is now occupying. I might be purchasing another one soon.

Cafe Counter by Carly Lindsey is another recent acquisition. Carly is a local Dallas artist, having relocated here recently from Austin, TX. She will be having an opening soon at The Magnolia theater in the West Village and I will post a link when it is available. This particular piece is from her wine bottle collection. I saw this piece and immediately have recollections from those evenings out at Vino 100 with my friends enjoying vino and conversation.

Babs and Honey Have the Corner Table, an oil painting also by Carly Lindsey is the second piece by her that I purchased as I loved the first so much. The richness in color as well as the subject matter of this modern expressive piece made it irresistible. It's fun and whimsical and reminds me of Ms. Kung-Fu and I and Ms. Fabulous and I out on one of many martini adventures.

I have added a few more oils and even some photography to the collection and will be posting them soon. As for those of you out there who have promised me a watercolor or an oil (I think you know who you are).....I am still waiting!
