I've been neglecting the blog as of late. I could blame it on work (I am back working 12+ hour days after being on a 6 month hiatus), but that would be lying. Frankly, I am just getting lazy. Too many activities, not enough time. Anyway, this entry should have been posted a week or two ago but I simply forgot. So, here it is....
It was that time again - time for the annual Stonewall Party at my friend's Cedar Creek Lake house. I had never been out to this lake, but apparently its proximity to Dallas makes it quite the little vacation spot in the summer to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Apparently my friends escape to there every weekend. Though the festivities at the lakehouse began at at noon, we were a little late getting there as Robin wouldn't leave his condo project. But, due to my Speed Racer type driving skills (discussed in a previous entry), we managed to arrive just in time for the barbecue.
It was simply a gorgeous day at the lake - not too hot under the trees. The house is located on a peninsula, allowing for a great breeze to blow across the water and the land. Our host had planned the perfect day - catered barbecue, plenty of booze, and a local band that could play some guitar. People were coming and going left and right, kids were swimming and having fun, and I was getting to catch up with some old friends and some future colleagues. The band played some old country tunes and classic rock while Robin and I enjoyed some beers, the beautiful scenery complete with a private beach, and a wonderful walk along the lake's stonewall. Here are some pics of us:

Unfortunately, we had to leave before the fire and smores as our social calendar was full. Our next stop was a party in Ennis, TX to celebrate my graduation and to welcome the incoming doctors to my residency program. Ennis, by our Google map calculation, should have been about 30 min away from Cedar Creek Lake. Apparently, Google maps is defective on back country roads, as we ended up 30 min due south of our destination after having driven 30+ min. Robin wanted to blame it on my driving, though he had to be reminded that he was the navigator!
We arrived in one piece, fashionably late of course. Everyone I work with except Ms. Fabulous was at the party, complete with Mr. Puniverse's (remember him from earlier blog entries) band providing live music. We ate, drank, and told stories to the incoming class. I had to give my usual spiel which includes the following words of wisdom.....a) it is virtually impossible to actually kill someone despite feeling like you are completely inept and b) you know more than you think you know. Maybe they will remember that some day on the hospital wards.
As a tribute to the outgoing senior residents and to poke a little fun at the upcoming residents, the 2nd years decided to give out a few awards. Actually, they weren't awards but instead titles that best described the recipient. Though I failed to understand the reasoning behind some of them, I was shocked to be the recipient of the "Most Likely to Post Porn on Her Blog" award. This blog might at times be obscene and at times filled with vulgarity (especially when I am pissed off), but never would it be considered pornographic. I am trying to post pics from this event but am having technical difficulties. Anyway, Robin and I were almost complete "partied out" by this point and so decided to make our way home. It is rare that I attend two great parties in one day but today was definitely an exception.
