For some reason, the entire weekend felt like it had a Japanese theme to it. Robin and I started the weekend with our usual Japanese steakhouse dinner on Friday night and consumed way too much saki. But, on Saturday night, we decided to go out for a late night dinner with Albster and Darren. The group opted to try out The Fish, the restaurant and sushi bar that just opened last weekend in Uptown. It had piqued out interest with its unusual metallic wine room that could be seen from the sidewalk and the funky decor. Japanese two night in a row.....what the hell!
My first impression....this was quite "the scene" place. From couples lounging in the bar to the groups dining next to us....it was typical Dallas. The decor was funky to say the least, with red velvet chairs and the "mirror explosion" (as Darren described it) in the restroom. Darren had to even check out the women's room as well to make sure it was as cool as the men's. Apparently, it wasn't. Too bad The New Yorker isn't here to enjoy The Fish as I am sure she would know all the bartenders by the end of the week if she were still in town!
The menu was eclectic - offering not only traditional rolls, but their own unusual twists. For instance, we started out with Ribeye Rolls, filet mignon and wasabi, as an appetizer. I think we were all happy with the food, with the only exception being the small size of all of the rolls. Oh well, a few Kirins later and nobody seemed to care. As Robin discovered, the "price performer" was the eel sashimi - yummy! Here are a couple of pics of us from the evening:
