A New Twist on Girl's Night

Despite our demanding work schedules and my upcoming board exam, The New Yorker, Ms. Fabulous, and I decided to have a girl's dinner out on the town. The plan was to catch up on the latest gossip and to enjoy an evening away from the books, powerpoint presentations, and journals that have become my life as of late. But tonight was going to have a twist, as our friend (let's call him "Duke") wanted to accompany us. You can never have too many fabulous male friends!

We met up at Duke's house on Swiss Avenue to begin the evening. The pre-dinner drink selection: our favorite Pretty Pink Drink (aka the Seabreeze to those of you that are drink snobs). We toured the home, admired the art, and enjoyed our cocktails.

The restaurant choice of the night was Kitchen 1924, a relatively new restaurant in Lakewood that I had been meaning to try. It's an upscale, yet "neighborhood" place that prides itself on a seasonal menu and cozy atmosphere. Check out the website if you want to know the meaning behind the name. Anyway, we dined on chopped salads and various entrees and enjoyed a bottle or two of white wine. We even learned Duke's tabletop trick to determine if a bottle of wine is good or not. Actually, I think it is more of a goofy bar trick, but he seems to think it is for real! It goes something like this: If you drop the cork from about 6 inches above the table and the cork stands up, you have yourself a keeper! I failed miserably the first few attempts, but then got the hang of it.

The topics of conversation for the evening were varied, but I somehow seem to only remember a particular question being asked: "What is the one quality you seek in a guy?" That was a real thought-provoker to Ms. Fabulous and especially to The New Yorker. I, on the other had, rattled off my one trait in about two seconds. I will have to leave you wondering what it exactly is though as to not give away too many of my secrets. Here are a few pics of us from the evening:
