Up Front at the Dave Matthews Concert

Two weeks and two rock concerts....I feel like I am 18 again! This time it was Dave Matthews at Smirnoff. The Dude procured the tickets for free, thanks to a screwup on the part of Ticketmaster when it came to his Coldplay tickets. He bought front row tickets, only to find that 5 rows or folding chairs had been placed in front of him. A call or two to management landed us up front tickets for this concert.

The night was perfect for this sold out show. I always walk into the amphitheater feeling sorry for the poor people who end up at the back of the lawn seats, especially when we are ushered all the way to the front. Oh well!

We made in just in time for the first set, opting to miss the opening band O.A.R. since the temperature was 100+ degrees. The band was awesome, especially the guy on the violin (he's wearing the white tanktop). I used to be a big fan of Dave Matthews in college, but lately I haven't been keeping up with his newer songs. Thus, most of the music was new for me, with the occasional recognizable tune like Crash Into Me. The violin and saxophone jam sessions were the best. Again, the violinist stole the show, adding riffs that I didn't know could be done with that instrument. Dave Matthews was exactly like I remembered from college, when he made an impromptu appearance at Duke for a concert on a weekday night.

For the tickets to read in bold, NO CAMERAS OR VIDEO, I was determined to break the rules. I mean, what do they care if I take a few pics. It's not like I am making any money off them. Luckily, The Dude is tall and so he was able to sneak some photos with my camera without the ushers stopping him. Here are a few pics from the evening:
