I have been telling my friends about Karaoke Revolution for Playstation 2 for the past few weeks. By no means am I a videogame player like Robin Leach (who designed them in one of his former lives), but I do find this game intriguing and fun.
So, on a whim, The New Yorker and Ms. Fabulous decided to try it out before they went out to a dance club. Robin made margaritas and frozen daiquiris, fulfilling the mandatory requirement of alcohol before participating in karaoke. Not to mention we are all self-described as "tone deaf" and needed a little liquor to hide the pain. The next thing I knew, we were designing our video "characters" and ready to begin. Ms. Fabulous opted for a chic character, ruining the outfit though with her choice of very large clown-like sunglasses (see picture).
I was up first, opting for my Patsy Cline favorite "Crazy", which has always been easy for me on karaoke. (At the time of this party, we only owned the country version of the game, but have since acquired two rock versions). I went Platinum on my debut, with the PS2 audience cheering me away. Robin Leach was up next. He was off his game tonight, unable to get the pitch right on any of his songs. At one point, his singing was so bad that the audience booed him off the stage and the song stopped midway through. You can only imagine the laughs we had with that one. All I have to say for him is...thank goodness for the margaritas as he seemed to laugh about it!
Ms. Fabulous really got into it, scoring in the platinum and diamond range with every song. She was a diva, burnin' it up on the mic! ("Burn it up" was out expression for the night, as we cheered each other on in hitting the high notes and holding the long notes). If the whole doctor thing doesn't work out for Ms. Fabulous, I am sure she can find a place on a stage somewhere. The New Yorker, on the other hand, was unfamiliar with most of the country songs, with the exception of "Good Ol' Boys" and "The Gambler". She learned an important trick to the game....if you are embarrassed about singing, just hum the right pitch and score points. I could barely hear her the whole night, but dammit she was scoring points anyway.
We plan on having a karaoke party soon for all of you that want to participate. It really is quite enjoyable. Heck, Ms. Fabulous called me up the next night and invited herself over to play some more. She went Diamond on that occasion, scoring a perfect 50,00 on "I Love Rock N' Roll".
Here are a few pics of us singing as well as Ms. Fabulous' goofy glasses:

Note: Notice how there are no pics of me embarrassing myself on the microphone!
