Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals

With his new CD Lifeline out, Ben Harper was back out on tour again. Having kicked off the tour in Boulder CO, he fortunately had a local stop at The Majestic Theater. Since I am on the fan list, I was able to procure 2nd row tickets. Robin's comments about the tickets, "Who is Ben Harper?" You have to love the musically challenged.

I like Ben Harper because he is such an eclectic musician - funk, blues, ballads, love songs, guitar jams, etc. The new album has some interesting songs, most notably "Paris Sunrise #7", for which I believe he is nominated for a Grammy. The concert was mainly a live performance of Lifeline, though he threw some oldies in there as well. The concert's most memorable moment came when Harper strode to he edge of the stage and sang a capella "Where Could I Go" while the audience sat in complete silence.

Overall, a great evening and I think I turned Robin on to Ben Harper. The only bad part of the evening came when the two college students sitting next to us decided to front load on alcohol before the concert and puked on the floor during the first song. Needless to say, they promptly left the concert. But, boy did I feel old seeing how they were partying and remembering those good ol' days of rock concerts!
